Vriddhi – 11th Elderly Engagement Programme
The Vriddhi 11th Elderly Engagement Programme was held on 18th September 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featuring a variety of activities aimed at promoting health, social interaction, and engagement among the elderly members.
1. Welcome (09:00 a.m. to 09:30 a.m.)
The programme commenced with a warm welcome service led by the Customer Relations Officer (CRO). Brochures on geriatric care were displayed. Mrs. Sanmathi, Customer Relations Officer, provided detailed information about the ‘Sharada Yoga & Naturopathy OPD’, informing members about the services available.
2. Health Talk (09:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)
Dr. Kishan Rao, Assistant Professor of General Surgery, AJIMS, delivered a health talk on “Melodies for the Mind: Exploring Music Therapy in Alzheimer’s Treatment”. He discussed key aspects of Alzheimer’s disease, the role of music therapy, and its benefits for patients. The talk covered topics like memory recall, emotional expression, behavioral management, and techniques for implementing music therapy. Dr. Rao also provided practical tips for caregivers. The session was highly engaging, with elderly members expressing joy and enthusiasm throughout the discussion.
3. Information on PAGE Competitions
Mrs. Roshel Maben, Executive Operations, explained details about the upcoming PAGE competitions, which will be held on the occasion of Alzheimer’s Day. She explained the categories for Young Seniors and Super Seniors (above 75 years), and a participant list was collected.
4. “Cooking Without Fire” Demonstration (11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)
The Sharada Yoga and Naturopathy OPD team conducted a “Cooking without Fire” demonstration. The prepared dishes were served to the members for tasting, promoting healthy and easy-to-make recipes.
5. Skit on World Patient Safety Day (11:30 a.m.)
In celebration of World Patient Safety Day, a skit was performed by hospital staff and students from AJ Institute of Hospitality Management (AJIHM). The skit aimed to raise awareness about patient safety practices in a healthcare setting.
6. Birthday Celebration & Entertainment (11:45 a.m. onwards)
The programme concluded with a birthday celebration for members born in August and September. A group photo was taken to commemorate the occasion. This was followed by entertainment activities led by the elderly members themselves, filling the room with joy and laughter. The event continued with health check-ups for the elders.
